Star Eyes Hamburg 1983

Lee Konitz is one of the most renown students of Lennie Tristano, along with Warne Marsh and (yes, believe it or not) Max Roach and Charles Mingus. He's one of those rare jazz musicians who does not repeat himself or depend on stock phrases or licks. Martial Solal is, in my opinion, the most sublime French pianist (though, technically, born in Algiers, Algeria). In the liner notes to this recording, Art Lange describes Solal's ability this way: "Solal's virtuosity truly does border on the Tatumesque - a nearly incomparable combination of facility and harmonic ingenuity".
Need I say more?

Enjoy!
