Dutch Treat...

Apparently, Holland has been a great place to be an improvising musician for many years...

How else can you explain why Holland's ICP Orchestra (Instant Composers Pool) includes American musicians Michael Moore (the horn player), Tristan Honsinger (the cellist) and Mary Oliver (the violinist)? The ensemble is led by Misha Mengelberg and anchored by the volcanic Han Bennink on drums (and what ever else around him that he can whack). It's a killer band! Each band member is a leader in their own right. This isn't hyperbole - they all front their own bands.

The concert we have here took place in Guelph, Ontario and was part of a North American tour they did last summer. I was lucky enough to catch them in my home town during the tour and was completely enchanted by their performance. They do Monk. They do Herbie Nichols and a generous helping of Misha Mengelberg.
Line-up and playlist to come...
Enjoy!
